Peak Software Consulting, LLC of Fort Collins Colorado (the developer of gpsTrainer®)
is revolutionizing the way athletes train for endurance sports. Ie.(cycling, running
and XCountry skiing)
gpsTrainer® is a software application developed for the PocketPC running Microsoft
Windows Mobile Operation System. gpsTrainer® uses Global Positioning Satellites to
track athletes and provide instant feedback on their pace. Athletes can upload their
data to a web site and compare races, download other athlete’s races and race against
them either as is or by adjusting their pace to match a goal pace. This feedback
allows athletes to target trouble areas to ensure success. There are many training
techniques available to help athletes go fast from point A to B but, until now,
it was difficult to know what worked best.
For example, a set of new wheels may “feel” fast – but are they? Are you gaining
or losing when you stand on a climb? How does your power output, your heartrate,
etc relate to time? How much do you fade if you start out too fast?
gpsTrainer® uses Patent Pending techniques to provide immediate audio feedback to
athletes up to 6 times per minute. Athletes using gpsTrainer® hear exactly how far
ahead or behind they are compared to their target pace.
gpsTrainer® works by recording an athlete’s position on a course using Global Positioning
Satellites every second. After recording a course, the athlete can race it and get
checkpoints accurate to the tenth of a second. This level of accuracy provides you
with sufficient feedback to gauge how well a set of wheels works, how cadence affects
your speed, what you “ideal” heartrate should be over the course, and in general
provides you with the feedback to beat your best time.
